Easy Lunch Teochew White Pomfret Fish Porridge

Fish porridge is the easy lunch that I almost cook every week. It is not only easy but a healthy lunch for kids or elderly. I am Teochew (one of the dialect of Chinese) girl and here I like to share you how Teochew people cook the style of porridge. We Teochew people like to cook the porridge with white pomfret fish, anyway you can replace it with other fishes.

2-3 persons

Ingredients

  • 1 pieces of Pomfret Fish
  • 1 cup of Rice ***Thai Fragrance Rice is better
  • 6 bowls of Water
  • 1 & 1/2 tea spoons of Dong Cai (preserved vegetable)
  • 7 pieces of Ginger
  • 1/2 tea spoons of Salt
  • 1/2 table spoons of Fish Sauce
  • a pinch of Pepper

Note: You can use any other type fish that you like.

Directions

Step 1: Rinse and cut the pomfret fish. Slice open both sides and cut into 8-9 pieces each side. Add in /2 tea spoons of salt and some pepper for marinate around 5 minutes.

Step 2: Wash and drain the dong cai.

Step 3: Cut the ginger.

Step 4: Wash the rice with a pot then add in 6 bowls of water, dong cai and cook over high heat till it boiling.

Step 5: Reduce to medium heat and continue to boil for 15 minutes.

Step 6: Add in the pomfret fish, ginger and fish sauce then continue to cook for 3 minutes till the fish is cooked.

Step 7: Transfer to plate or bowl, then top up some pepper before it ready to serve.
